Japanese scissors and shears

Japanese scissors are well known for their quality. And do you know why they are so sought? One of the reasons are the manufacturing techniques dating centuries ago also used in production of Japanese swords.

Main attributes of scissors should be – they should be comfortable, they shouldn’t hurt your wrist when cutting with them, and they should be sharp to cut trough whatever you need them too.

It is important to treat your scissors as the professional styling tools as they definetely are one. To have them in the best shape, the must be used on clean surface, and after use clean them with warm water and soft detergent. Open the blades wide and get rid of any dirt and grease that might come in contact with scissors. After washing dry them with soft towel. It is recommended that you oil the meeting point of the blades from time to time.

Typical Japanese style has convex edge blade design. They are very sharp and smooth, which make them excellent choice for slide cutting involved in modern hairstyling techniques. The inside of the blade is concave while the outside is convex.

For comparison lets look at standard German Style Scissors. Those have beveled edge, and the inside of the blade is flat. This design was used on first scissors. It is very good at dry cutting but lack in slide or point cutting.
